Some Interesting Links

John has suggested 2 links that may be of interest to our readers and participants of the Folk Club.

1)
The first is a weekly BBC folk music programme.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wrmz

This is an hour long radio programme broadcast live on Wednedays at 20:00 hours on BBC Radio 2 and available over the internet with BBCi Player (based on REAL player) for up to a week later. It is called "The Mike Harding Show" and is produced by Mike Harding, a jolly old folker if ever there was one.
Click on "listen now" half way down the page on the left hand side to listen to it.  A track list is also available.

2)
http://www.showofhands.co.uk/

"Show of Hands" a British acoustic trio currently touring Germany. Click on the video of the award winning song about the financially smitten insurance giant "AIG"
aptly renamed "Arrogance Ignorance and Greed"

3)
The third link here is my favorite country music station B104.7 broadcasting from Syracuse, New York. This station is my information source for the contemporary country songs that I sing at the Folk Club such as "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven". You will certainly be hearing some more of the country music top 40 in the months to come. Enjoy!

Just hit "Listen Now" to get it going!

soon,
Barry

PS. If you hear any song that you really, really like, let me know and I will try to sing it. But, I just can't do "Stand By Your Man" ;-)

Bericht von ersten Abend

Neuer Folk Club in Graurheindorf

Folk Club Bonn - 1st Press Release

(deutsch weiter unten)
Anglo American style, a place where total strangers meet peacefully once a month and play simple honest acoustic music. Free admission and open to people of all ages to either just come along and listen, or hopefully to come and sing and/or play and do a “floor spot”.
Unplugged and unpretentious, one could almost call it a feast of international folk, blues, roots and world music, with even dance and poetry allowed, but really it’s just a plain and simple old fashioned folk club.
Everything is allowed that is not expressly forbidden, and the only thing that is forbidden is the amplifier. The room is small enough and music has sufficient power in itself, without artificial steroids.
Resident singers and musicians are John Harrison, a noteless blues singer from the old continent and Barry L. Roshto, a classically trained musician with more notes than the Federal Reserve Bank from the new continent. Two men separated by the same language, yet united in their love of music, the most unifying language of all.

When and where?

Beginning on Friday, 5th March at 19:00 – 19:30 and thereafter on the first Friday of each month at:

Gastätte zum Schützenhaus
Estermannstrasse 109
53117 Bonn
Tel : 0228 92985179

The folk club will meet in the room at the rear.

Folk Club
