Dear Folk Club friends,
next Friday, 07 February 2025, there will be the 154th edition of the Folk Club. At the same time, the Folk Club will be celebrating its fifteenth anniversary.
On 5 February 2010, John Harrison belted out his loud ‘Laaaadiiies and Gentlemeeen ...!’ for the first time to welcome the then still rather small Folk Club community into the hall. In the meantime, the evening of the first Friday of the month has become a fixed date in the diary for many of you. What's more, the organising group has rarely had trouble finding enough artists for the evening for many years.
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to its success: the organisers, the many, many musicians and other artists, the audience, who create a unique atmosphere for themselves and for the musicians by focusing on the performances (quote from Italian singer Serena Finatti: "Incredibile atmosfera: attentissimi, calorosi, partecipi, cantiamo insieme, si lasciano dirigere, ci sono dei momenti veramente magici dove la mia musica è chiaramente non più mia...") and of course to our hosts, including in particular the landlords of Dotty's (current landlord Ronald Schäfer), who have provided the Folk Club with a pleasant and safe home since 2016.
Enough of the praise, now it's time to organise the evening ahead. Unlike usual, in the first part before the interval, the local artists will each play and sing one piece of a maximum length of two minutes. Once everyone who wants to play something has ‘finished’ and there is still time before the interval, it starts all over again.
As Tangoyim, a group known to many of you, has once again signed up as a featured artist, they will be given extra space in the round dance and will play the second half of the evening on their own.
For all those who don't know Tangoyim yet: The duo consisting of Stefanie Hölzle (violin, clarinet and vocals) and Daniel Marsch (accordion and vocals) specialises in music that moves between klezmer and tango. Wherever the two perform, musical enjoyment and good humour are guaranteed.
The theme of the evening is: ‘Migration, celebrations and delicacies’. Let yourself be surprised and enjoy the evening!

Start: 7.00 pm until probably 10.00 pm. The hall is open from 5.00 pm and offers the opportunity to enjoy a cosy meal and drink before the concert. If you arrive early, you can also sit in the front row.

In March we will dedicate the evening to this rarely heard instrument.
And one more thing:
if you can't get enough of folk and blues, you have the opportunity to hear John Harrison and Christoph Thiebes on Thursday, 6th February 2025 at Kater 26, Römerstraße 26, 53111 Bonn. Their performance is themed ‘A little bit of folk and a whole lotta blues’. The ‘Kater’ will also be serving a well-crafted Pilsener Urquell and delicious Czech wines.
Admission is free, there will be a collection for the artists.

Liebe Folk-Club-Freunde,
am kommenden Freitag, den 07. Februar 2025 gibt es die 154. Ausgabe des Folk Clubs. Zugleich feiert der Folk Club sein fünfzehnjähriges Bestehen.
Am 5. Februar 2010 schmetterte John Harrison erstmalig sein lautstarkes „Laaaadiiies and Gentlemeeen …!“ zur Begrüßung der damals noch recht überschaubaren Folk-Club-Gemeinde in den Saal. Inzwischen ist der Abend des ersten Freitags im Monat bei vielen von Euch ein Fixpunkt im Kalender. Zudem hat die Organisationsgruppe seit vielen Jahren selten Not, genügend Künstler für den Abend zu gewinnen.
Wir bedanken uns bei allen, die zum Erfolg beigetragen haben: den Organisatoren, den vielen, vielen Musikern und sonstigen Künstlern, dem Publikum, das durch seine Fokussiertheit auf die Darbietungen für sich selbst und für die Musiker eine einzigartige Atmosphäre schafft (Zitat der italienischen Sängerin Serena Finatti: „Incredibile atmosfera: attentissimi, calorosi, partecipi, cantiamo insieme, si lasciano dirigere, ci sono dei momenti veramente magici dove la mia musica è chiaramente non più mia…“) und natürlich bei unseren Gastgebern, darunter insbesondere bei den Wirtsleuten von Dotty’s (aktueller Wirt Ronald Schäfer), die dem Folk Club seit 2016 eine angenehme und sichere Heimat verschaffen.
Genug der Lobpreisungen, es gilt jetzt, den kommenden Abend zu gestalten. Anders als gewöhnlich werden im ersten Teil vor der Pause die lokalen Künstler nacheinander jeweils nur ein Stück von maximal zwei Minuten Länge spielen und singen. Wenn alle, die etwas spielen möchten, „durch“ sind und es noch Zeit bis zur Pause gibt, geht es wieder von vorn los.
Da sich auch diesmal mit Tangoyim eine vielen von Euch bekannte Gruppe als Featured Artist angemeldet hat, bekommt sie in dem Reigen extra Platz eingeräumt und bestreitet die zweite Hälfte des Abends allein.
Für alle, die Tangoyim noch nicht kennen: Das Duo bestehend aus Stefanie Hölzle (Geige, Klarinette und Gesang) und Daniel Marsch (Akkordeon und Gesang) hat sich auf Musik spezialisiert, die sich zwischen Klezmer und Tango bewegt. Wo immer die beiden auftreten, ist für musikalischen Genuss und gute Laune gesorgt.
Das Thema des Abends lautet: „Migration, Feste und Köstlichkeiten“. Lasst euch überraschen und genießt den Abend!
