Third up after an unexpected "Walk-in" in the guise of a certain local comedian and musician with African heritage, Dave Davis on piano. Milan Thelen followed and was visiting the Bonn Folk Club for the first time with some delightful self-penned tunes:
Up next after several re-bookings was, at least half of Gedankenspiel, with a song written only the precious evening by Petra Siegmund, entitled "Aufbruch & Rückkehr" / "Departure and Return" , the very title of the evening's theme. It's difficult to get more on topic with the evening's theme than that!
Next up for their debut if Bonn Folk Club was the newly formed trio "Trio Nova Bonn" comprising of three gentleman, ATephan Westphal, Enrico Klein and Wolfgang Schmidt who have all been regular visitors on first Friday of the month evenings, but this was the first time that they had performed together:
Their first two songs were written by Enrico and they finished off their set with aThere was yet another new formation under the name of "Hey Polly" led by Mathias Hartisch and his colleague on cahon, who managed some wonderfully honed acoustic covers of artists as diverse as Fleetwood Mac, The Eurythmics and Britney Spears.
The featured artist this evening was the diminutive 3D Delta Danny from Darmstadt who regaled us with some fine guitar work on old Blues standards, as well as her own compositions on a resonator guitar with a powerful tight foot stomp and her own peculiar stool complete with a leather holster for
picks, capos and bottlenacks and a useful drinks container, all within easy reach! Danny was certainly a driving inferno, bristling with enrgy, rythym and emotion packing some powerful guitar licks. many thanks Danny!
After the break and the usual announcements our old friend Gert Müller whose longevity belies his 89 years, treated us to a short poem in the local dialect, not of the more well known "Kölsch" , but the nore local "Bönnsch"! and he "vertellt" the story very well indeed! Just what our "Poetry Corner" needed.
Next up was Jochen Hiester from Koblenz who had already played an "Annette" (a one song floor spot) earlier in the year. Jochen treated us to two self-penned tunes, "Die Botschaft" , very appropriate as in the folk club we are not a million miles from the B9 road which was known as the "Diplomaten Rennbahn" / "Diplomats racetrack" between Bonn and Bad Godesberg in those heady days in the last century when Bonn was still the capital city of Germany. "Ab und Zu" completed his set and the piano was returned to face back to the wall.
It was certainly an evening of "Firsts" in July. Jochen had brought along his sister Ina Hiester. This was Ina's first appearance in Bonn Folk Club, and she normally lives on a sailig boat in the south of England, or at least she has done for the last two years, and from her base there has visited numerous folk clubs and open mic sessions in England, of which there are many, which she has used as a base to hone her musical talents writing three delightful songs in English which she delivered to us with great talent and serenity.
Let us hope tat Ina decides to sail up the Rhine again sometime soon.!
Next up was Miguel who has often performed here in the folk club, along with two compatriates who supported him on guitar and percussion. under the title of "Tres Parados", who regaled us with some wonderful music and lyrics in Spanish, which omce more underscores the very international flair of Folk Club Bonn
One can tell that it is summer, not just from the heat, which was thankfully more bearable than in the previous week, but also by the fact that it is still light outdoors at this time of the evening.
So it was left to the delightfully delectable and diminutive Delta Danny to round off the evening which she did with great aplomb and to rousing applause from the audience in her second set of the evening. This month, thanks to Detlef, there were suuficient lyric sheets available for Jock Stewart to be sung by all the audience with the usual gushing gusto!
