Folk-Concert: Music From The British Isles John Harrison

John Harrison macht seit über einem halben Jahrhundert Musik und ist, wie Johnny Walker, "still going strong / immer noch stark!" Schon während seiner Schulzeit spielte er Bassgitarre in der Rockgruppe Huxley Mushroom, später am College in England leitete er ein Jahr lang einen Folk-Club. Nachdem er nach Deutschland gezogen war und mit der Menden House Blues Band in St. Augustin spielte, wurde er 2009 gefragt, ob er beim Aufbau eines anglophilen Folkclubs in Bonn helfen wolle? Seit 2010 ist er Mitbegründer, MC und Hausmusiker des Bonner Folkclubs und hat dort insgesamt 145 Auftritte absolviert. Darüber hinaus war er auch an verschiedenen anderen musikalischen Konstellationen mit Folk und Blues beteiligt. Eines seiner Lieblingszitate stammt von einem seiner Lieblings-Blues-Sänger, Big Bill Broonzy: "All music is folk music, I never heard no horses sing no songs!" Seit neun Jahren ist er auch als singender Nachtwächter unterwegs und führt für StattReisen in englischer Sprache durch die Bonner Altstadt des Jahres 1698. Am 26.05.24 wird John Harrison eine sorgfältig ausgewählte Sammlung von Liedern von den britischen Inseln vortragen, eine musikalische Regenbogentour zu seinen frühen Wurzeln und ein Potpourri des Besten der britischen Folkmusik.

John Harrison has been playing music for over half a century, and like Johnny Walker, “is still going strong!” From playing bass guitar in a rock group, Huxley Mushroom, whilst still at school, later at college in England he ran a folk club for a year. After moving to Germany and playing with the Menden House Blues Band in St. Augustin, he was asked in 2009 if he would consider helping to set up an anglophile folk club in Bonn. Since 2010 he has been the co-founder, MC, and resident musician at Bonn folk club taking part in a total of 145 performances there. Additionally he has also been involved with several other musical constellations involving both folk and blues. One of his favourite quotes is by one of his favourite blues singers, Big Bill Broonzy, “All music is folk music, I never heard no horses sing no songs!” For the past nine years he has also been a singing night watchman, performing tours of Bonn in English for StattReisen, through the old parts of the city of Bonn in the year 1698. On 26.05.24 John Harrison will be performing a carefully selected collection of songs from the British Isles, a musical rainbow tour of his early roots and a potpourri of the best of British folk music.
