What does it mean to be British?
There have been a few unsettling things emanating from the British Isles in recent years when one thinks of water pollution, Boris Johnson, and Brexit to name just a few. The end of the reign of Elizabeth II and her death last year after over seven decades of exemplary public service was very sad but another example of renewal.
This weekend the new monarch King Charles III will be crowned.
If you have one of these with your name on it then you will doubtless not be in Vettelschoß but in Westminster Abbey in London:
If you notice the figure on the bottom of the invitation, this is the Green Man a figure which one encounters, in wood or in stone, carved in numerous churches throughout the British Isles and in Europe
.
It is a symbol of harmony in nature, of the vanquishing of winter each year and the arrival of spring and some would even say it represents the very essence of life itself.
So if you live near Bonn or the surrounding area do come to Vettelschoß and I'll sing you some songs about the Green Man and some other songs from the British Isles, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons on 06.05.23 and 07.05.23
How do I get there you might ask?
You can travel direct by car, or if you wish take a DB train to Linz and then take the tourist train which leaves on the hour from 10:00 hrs onwards to the terminus at Kalenborn in Vettelschoß, which is less than one minute's walk from Little Britain.

Then after enjoying the culinary delights such as Afternoon Tea, Fish & Chips, a fine selection of English beers, and draught Guinness, one can either return with the train or walk along with the Green Man down the valley and through the woods back to Linz.
One of the most charming things about being British is the astonishing number of eccentrics it propagates in comparison with other nations and Gary Blackburn the British tree surgeon who has turned his, for some, crazy idea of „Little Britain“ into a reality is a proud member of this genre.
